[a friend shared this reflection with me]
" stolen moments with my lover under cover of darkness. wind. rain.
cold. warm heart and hands. Black Rock City a sanctuary for growing
love. what we found can not be described. never before so empowered and
inspired. still sustained today."
marian

PILGRIMAGE TO BURNING MAN
[ by Jim Dees ]

The Burning Man
towers o'er my dreams
and calls to me at night
He beckons from
the far horizon
fiery bright
'gainst starry sky

I don't know what he wants from me
I only know that I must go
My destined metamorphosis
waits beneath his pyric glow

The vision haunts
my waking hours
and will not fade or wan
‘til I'm absorbed in how to make
this pilgrimage
my muse demands

What sacrifices will I make?
What parts of me will perish?
but ohhhh....
the self I might become -
the vision that I cherish

her name is Cloud
she's dusty
in a red fishnet
body stocking
black leather shin length pants
she's hitched her way
from Orcas Island
she's so happy
to be here at the Man tonight
she glows
through her dust
she rolls
about his feet
hugging his ankles
communing
languorous
lissome
her body fairly purrs
she smiles we talk of our
home towns
favorite poets
i look away
and she's gone...
was she real?
or was that my muse
thanking me for coming?...

The Man lays down
The priests surround him
His reign nearly at an end

All week he's towered
O'er this high playa
Where prehistoric fish once swam

Thousands of artists
Have answered his call
To make this playa live again!
Oasis of freedom!
Radical expressions
Transforming us
Without and in

Now his arms are raised in triumph
Even as they plan his pyre
Tonight he'll join
Immortal Muses
While we revel
Round his fire
